This is just a VERY BASIC REVIEW, let's call it first impressions. I will certainly report back after playing around with my new toy for a few days!Īs promised my review of the Ravenscroft 275. So once again, thank you all for your advice and your experiences. This should be a wonderful compliment to my other piano VSTi and round out my collection nicely! So, I'm gonna pull the plug and purchase this one and I have to admit I'm like a kid at Xmas time because I have been looking for this type of piano sound in a VSTi ( bright, clear, punchy and yet playable) for years and even with external processing (Waves, Ozone etc) was never really able to mimic it. So I have my own project studio so the I have the monitoring system covered (MOTU Ultralite AVB interface, JBL, Genelec, Event monitors, AKG Q701/Sony 7506, ATH-M50x headphones etc. His hands literally float over the keyboard and it doesn't even look like he is playing the tune, although I know he is! Quite an interesting technique! Maestro1972, your clip sounds just like the demos at least to my ears! Thank you for posting that one! AllanH, I listened to that excellent clip and Dan's playing style is amazing. Thank you all so much for posting your impressions. Thank you so much in advance for any advice. If so, would you mind sharing your settings? So taking the Eric Griggs demo, for those of you that own the Ravenscroft 275, does it actually sound like this demo?Īlternatively, have any of you been able to tweak say Pianoteq or Ivory American D (or any Ivory piano) to sound like this? So right now American D and Pianoteq Steinway B are my go to for inspirational playing but no matter how much I tweak I can't get that "stringy, in your face" type sound that I am hearing with the Ravenscroft 275 at least from the demos. I'm using a Roland RD700 and a Roland RD 150 in my studio. Playability is extremely important, mostly repedaling to catch the strings and samples that don't die immediately when lifting off the key. Jazz pianist who likes the bright, Nashville sounding piano but not over the top. Though, once in a while you get honest people talking honestly about pro's and con's of keyboards in intelligent ways.not just "oh, that sucks".Long time lurker first post here. It mainly comes down to either sour grapes coupled with buyer's remorse ("Oh, that new board isn't as good as the one I just dropped $3k on 6 months ago") or reinforcement of their decision ("I bought this board, therefore, everything else sucks or else I wouldn't feel good enough for buying this board"). Then again, I've yet to see any keyboard anywhere that's been universally praised. The only company that seems to get a pass is Yamaha in that regards.but again, only the S90es's piano as I've seen some complain that the new S90xs's new piano isn't good either. Seriously, just look at some of the threads here and whenever the RD-700gx is brought up, someone always says "yeah, but Roland has sounds for piano". At least that's what people make it seem. If you listen to people on the forums (which honestly, I've tried not doing anymore), you get the impression that the RD700GX has great action, but their piano sounds/samples were derived from a Fischer Price toy. PS: I tried the search function of this forum but for some reason it returns 0 results no matter what I put in, seems to be a problem of the site? so sorry if this has been discussed already extensively So my question is is there and Stage Piano/Controller which gives a similar realistic Grand feeling as the Kawai MP8 which is more lightweight? Or put it differently, the MP8 seems to get not to many attention from the crowd here despite its (subjective, OK) wonderful piano action, so I wonder why this is? In terms of action I really liked the Privia and the Kawai MP8II, (SV-1 is great but not exactly Grand Piano feeling).īut the point is that I know the MP8 pretty well and LOVE its feel, IMHO it is much superior to all the mentioned boards (wooden keys, actual "real" mechanics behind the board.) which the other boards seem to lack. (In terms of sounds I don't care much as long as it has a usable Grand Piano sound).
Mainly I wanted to make the least compromise in terms of action and tried the SV-1 88, RD700GX, Kawai MP8II, and PC3x, Casio Privia PX 330 (no Yamaha were available at the two stores around.
I have been looking around to update my old Roland RD-100 StagePiano as Home Piano and Controller for my Nord Stage Compact.
